The ‘Stop Work Authority Champion’ initiative continues to gain and expand popularity among our workforce across all sites. This initiative is driving up empowerment and hazard spotting skills among our employees. SWA, jointly with other ongoing initiatives, is expected to transform our workforce to be one of the most safety conscious, observant and competent teams to deliver critical projects in Oman.
Hearty congratulations to Tariq Hussain , who emerged as the TOCO overall Stop Work Authority Champion for the month of June 2021!
Tariq, who works as a rigger at our Wadi Laitham site, was part of a crew which was assigned to remove an Instrument Air Receiver from the shipping container. Tariq noticed that the wedging and cradle of the equipment were misplaced during the transportation. Lifting the equipment out of the container without rectifying the skid was understood as risky. Without delay, he raised the alarm and stopped the work. The crew discussed remedial measures and the equipment support was reinstated by placing additional skids. Subsequently, the work was resumed safely.
If the above unsafe condition was not reported or ignored, it could have resulted in the equipment being slipped away/falling down while unloading, injuring the unloading personnel and/or causing asset damage. Personnel injuries could have led to work stoppages /disruptions at site and asset damage could have resulted in major project delays. All these were averted by the timely application of a simple but effective tool called “SWA”!
Tariq’s behavior demonstrated strong commitment to our Stop Work Authority initiative and his ability to spot hazards in everyday work scenarios.
As a token of appreciation from the management, Tariq received a certificate, gift and an ‘SWA Champion’ branded coverall. Congratulations!
Stay tuned for the July 2021 SWA nominations and overall champion announcement!
